Welcome to this review of the Bunn STX specialty 10-cup Home Coffee Brewer w/ Thermal Carafe. It is my intention with this review to cover the important features of this coffee maker and hopefully allow the reader to make an informed decision about whether to buy or not.
The overall taste of the coffee is very high as it is with all Bunn coffee makers, and while I personally think the brew speeds of the Bunn coffee machines are fantastic; there are still a few issues that need to be addressed. The biggest issue I can think of is that there is no auto timer. Bunn validate this by affirming that with a 3 minute brew time there should be no need for a timer. I think this just goes to highlight effectively who the machine was designed for; if you don’t like preparing your coffee early in the morning or before you drink it, then you might be best to look elsewhere. I would say this machine is best purchased and used by coffee aficionados who want the freshest beans that have just been grinded before the pot is brewed.
The overall build of the machine is of a very high quality and where we had plastic covering a large portion of the machine before, we now have a much stronger thick plastic supported with stainless steel around the outside. Bunn are famous for making commercial coffee makers as well, so they have a good reputation for making sturdy built to last machines. I have read reports of people using Bunn coffee makers for 10 and 20 years or more. When we compare this to companies who give out pathetic 1 year guarantees with their machines, spending a little extra cash on a machine like the Bunn STX shouldn’t be too big of a deal.
So while we have to leave the coffee maker plugged in 24/7 and there is no auto-on/off function, as long as we take a few precautions such as turn it off when we are going to be out of town for more than a day or two, then there is no problem with this really. The coffee is always piping hot, the quality of the coffee is excellent and as is the norm with Bunn coffee makers a solid construction.
