The Cuisinart DBM-8 Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill is one of the best cheap option grinders that you can find on the market today. I would suggest that it is best used with a drip coffee maker as opposed to an espresso machine. The grind quality is not quite what those used to high quality espresso might be used to. If it’s your intention to buy a new grinder for use with an espresso machine, then I would suggest that you will probably be better spending a little more money on your grinder to ensure that it gets the most consistent grind possible.

We have a Burr grinder here, and while I think that there is still a good place in the market for blade grinders, they aren’t really living up to the standard of grinding that you get with a burr grinder. The main difference between a burr grinder and a blade grinder performance wise is the fact that burr grinders do not heat up and cause the grinds to lose flavor.

The performance of this Cuisinart DBM-8 is very good, in the 3 months that I have owned it (using it every day), I have never seen it “miss” any coffee beans. There have been reports of this on the web, but it is not something that I have personally experienced. It’s not the most expensive of coffee makers, so you shouldn’t have super high expectations anyway.

Using this grinder on the smallest possible setting will inevitably lead to some powder issues. If you are intending to use this machine with a drip coffee maker, then using a setting mid-range to coarse will bring about the best results in my opinion.

The noise level of this machine is a little noisy, and while I don’t have any issues listening to it, if you have sensitive ears it could cause you more than a little irritation. I have definitely experienced noisier grinders than this anyway. There is also the programming function that you can use to avoid the noise of the grinder altogether if you wish.

The construction of the Cuisinart DBM-8 is solid and sturdy, it has a good weight to it and feels and looks like it will last a good long while. The stainless steel finish also adds to the design making it look lovely on my countertop.

My conclusion on this machine is that you can’t find much better for under 50 bucks. And again, if you are looking for a machine to deal with grinding for an espresso machine you should probably look at a higher price bracket.

Thanks for reading.
