Hello and welcome to this review of the Krups FMF5 10-cup coffee maker. What I would like to attempt to do with this machine is inform you all of the key issues and also the key features that affect this unit. After reading I would like the reader to have reached a point where they can confidently decided whether this coffee machine is for them or if they might be better off looking elsewhere for their next coffee maker.
If you look on Amazon.com you will most likely find a lot of reviews that talk about this machine in a negative light. I think that is a little unfounded and I would like address some of those issues here. While it’s true that if you brew a pot of coffee straight away after unpacking that you will have a pot of coffee that does not taste quite how it should. The best remedy for this then is to first do a water only brew cycle before doing anything else. Then just to make sure the unit is as ready for brewing as possible brew a pot of coffee which is not for drinking, but to be thrown out. The first pot of coffee is always a little off flavor so it’s worth spending a little time ensuring we get the best flavor from the very start.
Some other reviews have stated that the pour rate on the thermal carafe is too slow. While I agree it could be faster, this is a quirk of all thermal carafes and the benefits that we get far outweigh any silly quirks. I would happily wait an extra few seconds for my cup of coffee if it means that my coffee does not taste of charcoal. When the coffee comes out of the thermal carafe it has a tough time doing so, but also can be said of the heat, which is something we do want to keep in the carafe as long as possible. On that, this carafe should still have hot coffee at lunch when the pot was brewed in the morning. This really is a feature worth paying a little extra for.
There is also no need to pre-warm the carafe (obviously if you do pre-heat the carafe you will see better results), so we can confidently set the program the machine to brew our coffee before we get up in the morning. This saves us valuable minutes in our morning routines and allows us the breathing room to drink our coffee in a relaxed manner.
